In addition to tutoring in specific subjects, University Tutoring helps students to develop strong study skills. In a one-to-one setting, we focus on each student’s specific situation and needs, taking into consideration the input of other educators or specialists.
We have experience working with students with a variety of learning differences, ADD/ADHD, and other special needs, and can provide referrals to other professionals. When it’s beneficial to the student, we can collaborate with teachers and other professionals to provide the most comprehensive support.
As part of our study skills program, University Tutoring helps students gain the skills necessary for success on tests in a school setting or on timed, standardized tests. We begin with a comprehensive intake that involves a review of the student’s study habits, learning style, and individual strengths.
One of the most critical components of being a successful test taker is knowing yourself as a learner and having confidence in your abilities. At University Tutoring, we help students tackle specific study strategies including active reading, note taking in home and classroom settings, organization of study materials, and self-testing, but we also help build students’ confidence in and awareness of themselves as independent learners.
As part of our study skills program, University Tutoring helps students gain the organization skills necessary for success in the classroom and beyond. We begin with a comprehensive intake that involves a review of the student’s habits, learning and personality style, and individual strengths.
We can assist students with personal organization including calendaring, keeping track of deadlines, prioritizing, breaking large projects into smaller tasks, and setting up an effective study area.
We can also help students stay organized through all stages of the writing process, including taking notes, brainstorming, creating an outline, drafting and editing.
LEARNING DIFFERENCES / ADD
University Tutoring has experience working with students with a wide variety of learning challenges including ADD and ADHD, processing disorders, math and test anxiety or phobia, and trauma from acute injuries.
Our comprehensive intake process includes a review of relevant educational and medical history, the current academic situation, and the specific needs of each student. We work with the student to develop achievable goals and a suitable schedule. When it’s beneficial to the student, we can collaborate with teachers and other professionals to provide the most comprehensive support.
University Tutoring can assist those undertaking a research task, whether it’s for a high school or college-level class, or a project for the workplace. We also assist with seniors’ culminating projects, undergraduate or masters’ theses, and doctoral dissertations.
We can help with finding appropriate primary and secondary sources, culling relevant material and quotations from these sources, keeping an organized collection of data, and developing a thesis and supportive argument. We are familiar with style guidelines and requirements for citations, bibliographies, and preparation for publication.
