This is the question many students and parents ask themselves as they explore tutoring options. While in-person tutoring remains our most popular offering, many students have found virtual tutoring to be the right fit for them.
We began meeting with students virtually in 2020 and have continued to do so since. In that time we’ve gained experience and insight into how to best run virtual sessions and who it works best for.
Below we’ve laid out some of the questions we suggest you think through for yourself or your student when making the choice between in-person or remote tutoring.
What are the advantages of remote tutoring?
- Save time by avoiding extra commutes to and from tutoring
- Expand your repertoire of virtual learning tools and resources
- Maintain your tutoring routine while sick at home or away on vacation
- Enjoy the comforts of learning from home
What is your student’s attitude towards tutoring?
Every student’s learning style is different. Students who have the most success with remote tutoring are those who are self-motivated to begin tutoring. Students who are particularly successful are able to maintain focus while using technology.
What is your student’s previous experience with tutoring?
Some students immediately take to remote tutoring, others discover it after they have come in for in-person tutoring. These students often have an easy time transitioning to remote learning because of the established expectations and rapport with their tutor. Sometimes even just a couple of in-person sessions are enough to establish this.
How does remote tutoring differ from in-person tutoring?
Remote and in-person sessions are quite similar. The tutors who conduct in-person sessions are the same ones who conduct remote sessions. They utilize the same resources adapted for digital learning. We emphasize a personal one-on-one approach and ensure all of our students receive high-quality instruction.
Do I need to download any applications or purchase other resources?
- The only programs you will need are a free Zoom account and a web browser.
- We have access to all the materials you would need including access to educational platforms and digital practice tests.
Can I schedule in-person sessions as well?
You have the freedom to swap between virtual and in-person sessions whenever you like. This allows for increased flexibility to pivot if complications arise.
